Solon City Schools are the community's biggest draw — a 5-star-rated district that's frequently named among the top public school systems in Ohio and nationally. The district is also one of the most diverse in the state, reflecting the multicultural community it serves. Academic rigor, competitive athletics, and a wide range of AP and extracurricular programs make Solon schools a top choice for families.

The city of Solon itself offers a balanced suburban lifestyle with a strong commercial base, including numerous corporate offices, restaurants, and retail along Route 91 and Harper Road. The Solon Community Center, public library, and extensive park system add to the quality of life.

Housing in Solon ranges from established neighborhoods with mature trees to newer developments. The median home price reflects the quality of schools and community amenities, but still remains well below comparable districts in other major metros.

Solon's commercial corridor has been buzzing. The Solon Chamber of Commerce reported over 30 new businesses opened in 2025 alone — a remarkable number for a community of this size. Among the most notable: Capriccio's Italian Restaurant and Olé, both bringing fresh dining options early in the year, and a Wingstop location at Solon Square. A Sheetz convenience store also held its grand opening in August 2025, and voters approved a rezoning for Michael Angelo's Winery in November, signaling even more to come.

On the parks and recreation front, Solon Community Park is in the middle of a $12.8 million, multi-phase renovation that will continue into 2027. In a milestone for the project, the city celebrated the grand opening of a brand-new 10-court outdoor pickleball complex with a ribbon-cutting on July 24, 2026, joining the earlier plans for championship courts. A permanent performance stage is expected to open at the park in late 2026, and Sebastian's Playground was slated to reopen around Labor Day after months of construction delays. Solon also launched a Rails-to-Trails connection to Chagrin Falls, creating a new non-motorized path between two of the area's most desirable communities, and is part of a 70-mile regional trail expansion effort.

The commercial momentum continued into 2026. Mayor Ed Kraus reported another 33 new businesses opened in the city, sharing the successes at his February 2026 "Conversation with the Mayor" event. Toolmaker RUPES USA is relocating an assembly hub to Solon, bringing 53 new jobs as part of a Northeast Ohio expansion, and Boom's Pizza, which started in Lakewood in 2023, added a Solon location in 2026 to grow to four shops. Solon's 900-plus businesses and strong city leadership keep the commercial corridor one of the most active in the region. Infrastructure work continued in 2026 too, with resurfacing on Aurora Road, a waterline replacement on Miles Road, and a new left-turn lane at SOM Center and Canon roads.

The city also opened Solon Community Living in June 2025 — a purpose-built residential neighborhood for adults with developmental disabilities, representing a meaningful step toward inclusive community design. Meanwhile, Ohio Lumex Co. announced plans to expand its Solon operations, creating 30 new full-time jobs, and ODOT is moving forward with a diverging diamond intersection at U.S. 422 and Harper Road to improve traffic flow at one of the area's busiest junctions.

For fall fun, Solon rolled out its first-ever Trick-or-Treat Trail at the Solon Community Center in October 2025, alongside the annual Solon Fall Festival at Bicentennial Park. Both are family favorites, and the 2026 edition is the biggest yet: the 2026 Solon Fall Festival, presented by Swagelok, returns on Saturday, October 10 (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) at Solon Community Park and Bicentennial Park along SOM Center Road, with a pumpkin decorating contest, corn box, backyard games, live music, food trucks, and a market of local crafters and artisans. Late summer brought more family fun: the July 25 PD Night Out & Movie in the Park headlined the 2026 Summer Festival lineup, and a late-August Movie in the Park screened Top Gun: Maverick at Bicentennial Park. On the dining side, 56 Kitchen and Mavis Public House have joined Solon's fast-growing restaurant scene, giving residents even more options along the Route 91 corridor on top of Capriccio's, Olé, and the new Wingstop.
