It is early August and Northeast Ohio is buzzing. Cuyahoga County Fair is underway in Berea, Cleveland's Little Italy transforms for the Feast of the Assumption, Mapleside Farms in Brunswick hosts its Friday night concert series, and free outdoor concerts fill warm evenings from Wooster to the Lake Erie shore. Here is what is happening right now and coming up across the region.

Cuyahoga County Fair

A six-day celebration in Berea with a full midway of carnival rides, livestock exhibitions, demolition derby, live entertainment on multiple stages, and endless fair food options. A Cleveland-area tradition that draws families from across the region.

Little Italy Feast of the Assumption

Cleveland's 127th annual Feast transforms historic Little Italy into a four-day street festival of faith, food, and community. Italian food vendors serve cavatelli dinners, sausage sandwiches, and cannoli. Highlights include daily Masses, a solemn religious procession (Aug 15), live music, games, and a candlelight procession on the final night. Free admission.

Mapleside Farms Concert Series

Friday night concerts at Medina County's most beloved farm venue. The lineup includes Disco Inferno (Aug 14), Out of Eden — an Eagles tribute (Aug 21), and Country Redford (Aug 28). Fresh-pressed cider, apple donuts, and the famous pumpkin village add to the experience.

Props and Pistons Festival

A free weekend event hosted by the National Museum of the Great Lakes and Ohio History Connection. Historic aircraft, classic automobiles, living history demonstrations, and family activities at the former Akron airship hangar site.

Wayne Center for the Arts, Wooster

Levitt AMP Wooster Music Series

Free outdoor concerts on the lawn at the Wayne Center for the Arts in downtown Wooster. The series features national touring artists, food trucks, and family-friendly activities every Wednesday evening. A highlight of Wayne County's summer, with the final show of the season on August 19.

Lorain County Fair

Wellington

An eight-day celebration in Wellington known for harness racing, truck pulls, 4-H shows, and nightly grandstand entertainment. The last county fair of the season in Northeast Ohio, and the final chance to enjoy fair food, midway rides, and agricultural exhibits before fall.

Cleveland Garlic Festival

Shaker Square, Cleveland

The 17th annual celebration of all things garlic. Regional chefs compete in the Garlic Grill-Off, restaurants serve garlic-forward dishes, and you will find garlic ice cream, popcorn, craft beer, and live music. Admission is about $10 at the gate.


Looking Ahead

Labor Day & Early September.

As August winds down, Northeast Ohio makes a graceful transition from summer festivals to the harvest season. Labor Day weekend brings firework displays, barbecues, and the last big outdoor celebrations. Then September ushers in apple picking, Oktoberfest, county fairs, and the spectacular fall color the region is known for. Here is a preview of what is coming.

One of the best-kept secrets about living in Northeast Ohio is how many free outdoor concerts happen throughout the summer. From lakefront stages to Metroparks pavilions and downtown parks, there is live music nearly every night of the week and you don't need a ticket.

Year-Round Activities

Metroparks & Outdoor Recreation: The Cleveland Metroparks system, 23,000+ acres known as the "Emerald Necklace," provides hiking, biking, fishing, golf, tobogganing, and nature education year-round. Cuyahoga Valley National Park offers 33,000 acres of trails, scenic train rides, and waterfall hikes.

Arts & Culture: The Cleveland Museum of Art (free admission), Cleveland Orchestra at Severance Music Center, Playhouse Square (the largest performing arts center outside New York), and the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame anchor a vibrant cultural scene. Smaller communities like Wooster and Medina also have active arts communities.

Sports: Cleveland is home to the Browns (NFL), Cavaliers (NBA), and Guardians (MLB), with year-round professional sports action. Minor league teams and college athletics (University of Akron, Cleveland State) add more options.

Food & Drink: Northeast Ohio's food scene has gained national recognition, from Cleveland's diverse ethnic neighborhoods to Medina's farm-to-table dining, Westlake's Crocker Park restaurants, and Wooster's award-winning downtown restaurants and craft breweries.
